Who is the Mindfulness Mentor?
My name is Brendan O’Shea and I’m someone who’s experienced depression, anxiety and hypervigilance since I was a teenager. So my interest in mindfulness is a very practical one: it is what guided me out of a life spent feeling constantly overwhelmed and hopeless.
It took me a long time to discover mindfulness. On the way I tried lots of different things to manage my mental health. I drank heavily for a long time. I tried meditation, eventually becoming a Buddhist monk for six years. I went deep into yoga and trained to be a yoga teacher. I studied Transpersonal Counseling and attended workshops and retreats, read many books and watched lots of videos. When I look back at everything I did, the single most useful thing I found was mindfulness. It’s the start of consciously responding to life rather than staying lost in unconscious reaction. Thinking about having a mentoring session? Why not contact me for a free 15-minute consult? You can get a taste of what I offer and decide whether to go ahead.
Mindfulness isn't something we're born with or some 'spiritual thing' that only certain people can 'do'. It is a skill that can be learnt and applied to any life. Think of it as teaching your nervous system healthy habits.

Without mindfulness we are slaves to our habits and our past, compulsively repeating old behaviours over and over again. With mindfulness we can recognise these unhealthy habits and learn how to manage them.
I want to share what I have learnt about Mindfulness because I think it is the single best approach for a happier, healthier life. I run workshops, give public talks, offer one-on-one mentoring. I've written some books. Check out the What I offer page for details on what I can do for you.
Embodying Mindfulness - An Intro
|
|
Coming soon! A series of articles and podcasts giving my introduction to a mindfulness practice.
I call it 'Embodying Mindfulness' to emphasise that if we want to change our lives we need to take a good idea - mindfulness- and bring it to life. We escape the endless loops of thought in our heads by paying attention to what is happening in our bodies. I'll be linking to articles and audio on my Substack account. |
